Report: Syrian opposition leaders meet with Russian ambassador

Russian ambassador to Syria has met with opposition leaders in Damascus and urged them to join indirect talks with representatives of President Bashar Assad's regime, the Lebanese newspaper As-Safir reported. The request was made ahead of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's meeting with Assad on Tuesday.

An opposition member told the newspaper that "The conversation focused on the efforts to start a dialogue with the regime without preconditions. We made it clear that dialogue demands conditions that have not been met." (Roi Kais)
