Indie rock band to perform in 57th annual Eurovision song contest set to take place in Azerbaijan. Izabo picked over Svika Pick, Maya Buskila

The band Izabo will represent Israel in the 57th annual Eurovision song contest, which is set to take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, the Israel Broadcasting Authority announced Tuesday.

The band was chosen over such singers as Svika Pick, Maya Buskila and others who contended for the spot.

Indie rock band Izabo, founded in 1989, includes lead singer and guitarist Ran Shem-Tov, his partner Shiri Hadar on keyboards, Jonathan Levy on bass and Nir Mantzur playing the drums.

One of Izabo's earlier hits – "Morning Hero":

The band is set to first compete in the May 22 semifinal. If they make it past the first stage they will go on to compete against 25 others countries on May 26. At the semifinals the band will perform the song "Time" written by Shem-Tov and Hadar and composed by Shem-Tov.

"It's a great honor for Izabo to represent Israel in the Eurovision," said Shem-Tov. "We were very surprised and happy about the decision. This year has been very exciting for the band with our new album coming out under the known British label '100%'. We certainly intend to prepare ourselves and give the performance of our lives."
