The Southern District Prosecution filed an indictment with the Beersheba District Court on Thursday against a 24-year-old Palestinian from Gaza who is suspected of planning to murder IDF soldiers.
According to the indictment, after joining Islamic Jihad in 2005, Akram al-Sufi committed a number of security offenses. The prosecution claims the Rafah native plotted to attack IDF soldiers operating in Gaza with explosive devices.
Earlier this week the prosecution filed an indictment against Ismail al-Sufi, 21, who is suspected of infiltrating Israel, conspiring to commit a crime and relaying false information.
According to both indictments, Ismail and Akram al-Sufi were detained after infiltrating Israel through the security fence situated along the Gaza border. They planned to tell Shin Bet investigators that Ismail was an Islamic Jihad operative in hopes that he would be imprisoned and therefore be eligible to receive money from a Palestinian prisoners' fund, said the prosecution.
