Israel's senior-most officials gathered at Ehud Barak's Tel Aviv bureau Thursday to celebrate his 70th birthday.

"You've dedicated your life to Israel's security," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the defense minister at the event, which was also attended, among others, by IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz and Barak's wife Nili Priel.
"If someone would have told me I'd be standing here at the age of 70 and speaking to you all – I would not be certain it could actually happen, for other reasons," Barak told those on hand.
"I served in the army for (decades), and I wish to thank you all, because I did not get everything done with my own (two hands)," he said.
PM Netanyahu told Barak, "We've known each other for 44 years – but it was simpler back in the day. You Ehud, have dealt with Israel's problems for the past 50 years as a soldier, commander and statesman. Your contribution is great."
Barak's actual birthday is February 12.
