Vilnai resigns ministerial role due to ambassadorial appointment

Home Front Defense Minister Matan Vilnai has submitted his letter of resignation to Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin, due to his appointment as Israel's ambassador to China.

As per the law, Vilnai's resignation is to go into effect within 48 hours. MK Shakib Shanan, who is expected to replace him, is likely to be sworn in during the Knesset plenum session on Wednesday. (Moran Azulay)
