Iranian navy commander Admiral Habibollah Sayari confirmed reports saying Iranian ships crossed the Suez Canal and sailed in to the Mediterranean.
"The flotilla carries a message of peace and friendship to the region's nations and showcases the force of the Islamic Republic's holy regime," he told the Fars news agency. (Dudi Cohen)
