The British government has paid out $1.6 million in compensation to dozens of child asylum seekers wrongly held in immigration detention centers, Lawyers say.
London law firm Bhatt Murphy said in a statement Saturday that the government made the payments to 40 former child detainees between 2009 and 2010. It says the rules on detaining young asylum seekers have since been changed. (AP)
