Peres: We must safeguard courts' independence

"Our job is to protect the judicial system and its independence so it may continue carrying out its duty – judge justly and independently according to professional considerations," President Shimon Peres said during the swearing-in ceremony of Noam Sohlberg and Zvi Zylbertal as Supreme Court judges.

"Anyone who is appointed a judge in Israel must have special attributes – dignity, morality, a strong sense of justice, patience and tolerance," Peres added. (Aviad Glickman)
