According to the report, the Israeli tourist, in his early 20s, failed to return from a round-the-mountain trek. On Thursday local police were informed that a search team had found him and that he was in good condition.

The Israeli embassy was trying to contact the hiker.

Earlier, the website reported that "a large contingent of searchers spent Thursday on the mountain searching for him."

A police sergeant said conditions on the mountain overnight may not have been too bad, but things could "turn nasty" on Friday.

"The 'weather bomb' they are forecasting is due to hit later today. If he's still out there overnight tonight things might get a little more ugly," Irvine was quoted as saying.

The Israeli was described as about six feet tall, between 20 and 22 years old, with long hair tied in a ponytail.

He expected to do the round-the-mountain track in about four to five days and left last Friday, 3News reported.
