Russia says Mideast Quartet to meet at UN

Russia's foreign minister will take part in a meeting of the Quartet of Middle East peace mediators at the United Nations next week. The Foreign Ministry says the Quartet, which includes the US, EU, UN and Russia, will meet Monday on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting of the UN Security Council.

The ministry added Wednesday that the meeting, which Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will attend, was needed to discuss the developments since the latest Quartet meeting in September, including tensions between the Palestinians and Israel over settlements. The ministry says Quartet participants should "consider specific steps to overcome a deadlock in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement." (AP)
