UN chief ‘very concerned’ by Gaza escalation
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said that he is “very concerned” by the escalation of violence between Israel and Palestinian groups in Gaza.
Speaking at a Security Council meeting on Libya and the Middle East, Ban said that civilians on both sides are paying a heavy price, and urged Israel and the Palestinians to act with restraint. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
