Night vision devices disappear from IDF base

Three goggles worth thousands of dollars each apparently stolen from Paratrooper Brigade training facility

Just three weeks after indictments were filed in the theft of more than 2,000 tank shells from an IDF base in the south, Military Police are investigating the disappearance of advanced night vision devices from a Paratroopers Brigade training facility in the Lachish region, Ynet reported Tuesday.

Soldiers at the base searched for the three night vision goggles - worth thousands of dollars each – but to no avail. Those responsible for the fiasco will likely be prosecuted and imprisoned.

The training base is located in close proximity to Palestinian villages situated beyond the Green Line, leading investigators to examine the possibility that Israel-Arabs were involved in the disappearance of the night vision apparatus.

Military Police said gangs, mainly in the south, constantly monitor IDF soldiers with the intent of stealing their weapons.

Over the past few years, the IDF has been dealing with the theft of military vehicles, bullets, shells and rifles that were left in the field without supervision.
