The main Syrian opposition block voiced support on Tuesday for a peace and ceasefire plan drawn up by UN and Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan so long as it led to the removal of President Bashar Assad.

"A peaceful transition means that the regime needs to be changed. And that starts with the removal of the head of the state," Basma Kodmani, a spokeswoman for the Syrian National Council told Reuters. (Reuters)
