Jordan's police say the state security prosecutor has charged 12 activists arrested at a demonstration Saturday with defaming the country's ruler, King Abdullah II. Police spokesman Col. Mohammed al-Khatib said they were also charged with incitement against the political system, illegal assembly and rioting.
They were arrested during a protest near the prime minister's office. They were demanding the release of two dozen other activists charged with inciting riots in Jordan's south last month. Al-Khatib said police released 15 others also detained Saturday. (AP)
