The world is thirsty for alternatives to the highly polluting fossil fuels, and there are a number of Israeli companies working on interesting innovations in this arena. According to Israel NewTech, a delegation of Israeli companies and startups showcased the local industry's latest innovations at the 7th World Biofuels Markets conference in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This year, the conference enjoyed some 2,000 participants. The Israeli mission to WMB was partially sponsored by the Alternative Fuels Administration at the Prime Minister's Office, the Israel Export Institute and Israel NewTech. The delegation included nine companies from the fields of agricultural, biomass, biodiesel and algae. The participating companies included: Kaiima, the Agricultural Research Center (Volcani), Migal, Netafim, Tahal, Univerve, Transbiodiesel, Virdia and Dr. Yaron Yehoshua, founder of the biotechnology of algae department at Bar Ilan University. Arik Rath, head of business development for Energy and Environment at the IEI, said that the government's goal is to support Israeli technologies in international projects and to position Israel as a leading technology incubator for the alternative fuels industry.
