Suicide bomber strikes in western Afghanistan

A suicide bomber in a four-wheel-drive vehicle has blown up his cache of explosives in Herat province in western Afghanistan, killing nine and wounding several others.

Nasar Ahmad Popul, the chief of Guzara district, says the explosion occurred Tuesday morning at the entrance to the district headquarters. He says there are casualties among civilians and police and damage to the police and district headquarters. (News agencies)
