The price of gasoline is due to drop on May 1 (midnight Monday) by 1.8% or 0.13-0.15 NIS per liter, senior officials in the energy sector said.
The drop in gasoline prices is the result of lower prices at Mediterranean oil refineries, which determine the Energy and Water Ministry's baseline price for petrol before tax, VAT, and retailers' profit margins are added.
The official price for a liter of 95 octane gas has been set at NIS 7.65 at full service stations, representing a NIS 0.14 drop fron the current prices of NIS 7.79. Full service fees will remain at NIS 0.21.
At the end of February, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu – seeking to keep the price of self-service gas under NIS 8 - issued an order to reduce the blue tax on gasoline by 0.10 NIS per liter for a period of two months, which officially ended today (Sunday.)
A few days ago, the country's gasoline companies received notification that the tax reduction would not be extended. If it were to remain in effect, prices would drop by an additional 0.10 NIS per liter.
