Defense Minister: IDF should decide who enlists
Defense Minister Ehud Barak announced his intention to propose a new bill to replace Tal Law, and create a comprehensive arrangement for the issue of military service. According to the proposition, IDF will determine who enlists for military service. The rest will be referred to a mandatory one-year civic or national service.
According to the bill, IDF will compensate those serving for the extra two years in a rate similar to the minimum wage, and help them to study or acquire a profession. The rest are expected to integrate into the work force once finished their civic service. (ynet)
