International Writers Festival to host Palestinian authors

Request by Tracy Chevalier and Aleksandar Hemon to meet with Palestinian cultural figures granted

Renowned authors Tracy Chevalier ("The Girl with the Pearl Earing") and Aleksandar Hemon ("The Lazarus Project") have asked Uri Dromi, the director general of the Mishkenot Sha'ananim conference center to meet with Palestinian authors as part of the International Writers Festival set to open in Jerusalem on May 13.

Chevalier has asked to meet with cultural figures in Ramallah while Hemon requested a tour of east Jerusalem and as well as a meeting with Palestinians.

Their requests were granted and the Mishkenot Sha'ananim center is currently working to arrange those meetings.

This is the third year that the International Writers Festival is taking place in Jerusalem. It will host a wide array of noted authors including Herman Koch, Lorenza Mazzetti, Gary Shteyngart and Israel's Eshkol Nevo and Edgar Keret.

Ynet recently learned that Indian writer Vikas Swarup had canceled his participation due to diplomatic engagements.
