B'nai B'rith names winners of 2012 Journalism Award
B'nai B'rith World Center in Jerusalem announces Channel 2 News reporter Lee Abramovitz, as winner of 2012 Award for Journalism Recognizing Excellence in Diaspora Reportage
The B'nai B'rith World Center in Jerusalem announced on Wednesday that Channel 2 News reporter Lee Abramovitz, is the winner of the 2012 “B’nai B’rith World Center Award
for Journalism Recognizing Excellence in Diaspora Reportage."
The Jury also decided to present a “Foreign Correspondent Citation” to AP correspondent Diaa Hadid (general media category), and Jana Beris (Jerozolimski), editor of Uruguayan Jewish weekly newspaper, Semanario Hebreo (Jewish media category).

Since its establishment in 1992, the B’nai B’rith World Center Award for Journalism has recognized excellence in reportage on contemporary Diaspora Jewish communities and on the state of Israel-Diaspora relations today in the Israeli print and electronic media.
The B'nai B'rith World Center Award is widely acknowledged in the media industry as the most prestigious prize in its field in Israel.
Members of the distinguished award jury include: Prof. Yehudith Auerbach, Head of the Communication and Journalism Studies Division, Bar Ilan University; David Horovitz, Founding Editor, The Times of Israel; Sara Frenkel, Diaspora Reporter, Broadcast Authority and Lifetime Achievement Award winner for 2002.
Lee Abramovich won the award for her report “American Jewry makes living kidney donations to Israeli patients” broadcast on Channel 2 Saturday Night news edition on July 9, 2011. The moving report reveals the little-known phenomenon of Orthodox American Jews who make live kidney donations to Israelis, their motivations and support structure.
The Jury also decided to present a foreign correspondent citation to AP correspondent Diaa Hadid for her June 18, 2011 article on the remnant of the Dar al-Bishi synagogue in Tripoli during the revolution in Libya and the history of that Jewish community, and Jana Beris (Jerozolimski), editor of the Uruguayan Jewish weekly newspaper, Semanario Hebreo for her interview with Natan Sharansky, Chairman, Jewish Agency published on March 24, 2011.
The Semanario Hebreo was established in 1960 by Beris’ father, Joseph Jerozolimski. When he passed away in 2004 Jana took over. The weekly newspaper is edited in Israel and distributed in Uruguay 50 weeks a year.
