Iranian intelligence: Ahmadinejad assassination thwarted in 2007

The Iranian Intelligence Ministry said that in 2007 an attempt by the Jundullah terrorist group to assassinate Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during a trip to southern Iran was thwarted.

According to the report, three suicide bombers were supposed to blow themselves up during the Iranian president's speech in the city of Iranshahr, in southeastern Sistan-Baluchestan Province.But four intelligence ministry operatives located them during the attempt. The statement said that four terrorists and four intelligence operatives were killed in the attempt. (Dudi Cohen)
