The Jundullah group (soldiers of God in Persian) is a group that fights for the autonomy of the Sunni minority in south-east Iran and regularly battles against the Iranian security forces. Iran has accused the group of receiving aid from western intelligence agencies including Israel, the US and Britain.

The intelligence ministry's announcement was published during Ahmadinejad's visit to the north-western regions of Iran.

This is not the first time that there have been reports of assassination attempts against Ahmadinejad. Similar reports were published in 2009 and 2010.
