Iran caricaturist eludes flogging as MP drops lawsuit

An Iranian lawmaker has dropped a lawsuit he filed against a caricaturist who ridiculed him, the Mehr News Agency reported. The caricaturist was convicted and sentenced to 25 whip lashes.
Iranian Parliament Member Ahmad Lotfi Ashtyani withdrew the suit that caused a stir in the local and global media, explaining that he sued the cartoonist, Mahmoud Shokraye, due to the indecency demonstrated by the magazine that published the drawing. (Dudi Cohen)
