Religious Iranian website offers $100,000 reward to anyone executing Fatwa issued on Shahin Najafi over lyrics insulting Islam
Iranian rapper Shahin Najafi now has an official price on his head: A religious Iranian website on Tuesday offered a $100,000 reward for the execution of the Fatwa placed on him.
Senior Iranian cleric, the Ayatollah Safi Golpayegani, has issued a Fatwa – a death sentence – on the Germany-based Iranian rapper for lyrics deemed insulting Islam.
An Iranian-based pop star, who voiced his support for the ruling via his Facebook page, offered an $8,000 reward for Najafi's head, as well.
The song, "Naqi," follows others that deal with theocracy, sexism, censorship and execution.
Najafi, 31, was forced to move to Germany when his politically-motivated lyrics for an underground band he was associated in Iran, earned him a ban.
