JNF raising $40M to restore Chilean forest after fire

None

The State of Israel is raising money through the Jewish National Fund to restore Chile's Torres del Paines National Park, which suffered the loss of some 130 square kilometers of forest in a catastrophic wildfire in December 2011.

Israeli tourist Rotem Singer was arrested on suspicion of causing the fire by lighting toilet paper. Singer denied the charges. After more than a month, he reached a plea bargain with the Chilean authorities and was released. (Attila Somfalvi)
