Turkish court rules president's term expires 2014

None

Turkey's Constitutional Court ruled on Friday against an opposition bid to bring President Abdullah Gul's presidency to an end in August, a court official said, removing a threat to Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan's presidential ambitions.

The court ruled in favour of a government-backed law pushed through parliament in January stating Gul would serve a seven-year term expiring in 2014, when Erdogan is expected to seek the office after introducing a presidential system. (Reuters)
