Beilinson Hospital: Endoscopy tool used on HIV patient not sterilized

The management of Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva announced Sunday that an endoscopy tool used in its Ear, Nose, and Throat Department was not sterilized as per procedure.

The instrument in question was used on an HIV-positive patient at the end of May, and some 150 patients who have been checked since then have been contacted and asked to come into the unit. However, the hospital stressed that the chance of HIV transmission in these circumstances was "close to zero." (Carmit Reuven)
