State-run television says Kurdish rebels have killed seven soldiers and wounded 15 others in a multi-pronged attack along the Iraqi border. TRT television said the rebels attacked military units in Daglica area in southeastern Hakkari province early Tuesday, prompting the military to launch a large-scale offensive in the area.
The rebel group, the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, is fighting for autonomy in southeast Turkey. Tens of thousands have died since it took up arms in 1984. (AP)
