Sudanese in Lebanon protest for refugee status

Protesters staging a hunger strike in Lebanon called on the United Nations on Wednesday to grant refugee status to thousands of Sudanese migrants so they could be resettled in other countries.

At least 25 Sudanese activists have been holding the strike outside the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) office in Beirut for 10 days. While there are hundreds of UN registered refugees who have come to Lebanon in recent years after fleeing conflicts in Sudan, the protesters say there are thousands more without refugee status.
