Unusual crime: Two young women from the town of Petach Tikva are suspected of attempting to blackmail an elderly man in order to pay for breast enlargement and nose reduction surgeries.
The suspects planned to wrongfully accuse the victim of raping one of them in order to finance the procedures, Yedioth Ahronoth reported Friday.
On Wednesday, police received a report about a rape in a Petach Tikva apartment. When officers arrived at the scene they found an 80-year-old man and a distraught young woman claiming she was raped by him.
The man was detained and during interrogation told police officers the woman arrived at his home in order to pick up the belongings of a friend who lived there until recently.
Investigators, headed by Chief Superintendent Sigal Bar-Zvi, identified various question marks in the supposed rape victim's complaint. She was taken in for interrogation and at one point admitted that she and her friend came up with the plan and made up the rape charges in order to blackmail the elderly victim.
The two women reportedly planned to demand tens of thousands of shekels from the man in order to pay for their surgeries.
Meanwhile, judges extended the remand of the supposed rape victim by two days. Her friend has denied any involvement in the plan.
