'Time for Israelis to carpool'
Environmental Protection Ministry launches new campaign to encourage ride-sharing as means of cutting gridlock, emission pollution
The Environmental Protection Ministry introduced a new initiative Sunday, meant to encourage carpooling.
The campaign, launched in collaboration with the Echo 99FM radio station and featured on the ministry's website, aims to encourage coworkers, students, parents etc. to share rides, with the aim of cutting both gridlock and the pollution they cause.
The ministry is also playing up the financial benefits of carpooling, namely the saving and sharing of gas expenses and becoming free of the need to find free parking, which is especially difficult in the Tel Aviv area.
The ministry also intends to harness the power of social media platforms to promote the campaign, and will launch several supporting activities, such as a competition between workplaces for the ministry's Medal of Green Honor.
