Former Palestinian Authority chairman Yasser Arafat, who died in 2004, may have been poisoned with polonium, a radioactive substance, Al-Jazeera reported Tuesday. The report is based on tests conducted by a Swiss laboratory.
According to the report, samples were taken from Arafat's personal belongings. “I can confirm to you that we measured an unexplained, elevated amount of unsupported polonium-210 in the belongings of Mr. Arafat,” said Dr. Francois Bochud, director of the Institut de Radiophysique.
