Average salary down 0.8% in April

Average gross monthly salary drops to NIS 8,881 in April, Central Bureau of Statistics reports. Electric and Mekorot workers continue to be Israel's best paid employees

The average gross monthly salary of Israeli employees has dropped by 0.8% in April, reaching NIS 8,881 ($2,266), the Central Bureau of Statistics reported Thursday. The number of hired employees in the country totaled 3.063 million.

 

Employees of the Israel Electric Corp. and Mekorot, the national water company, were deemed the best-paid workers in April; their salaries averaged NIS 27,723 ($7,075) a month. Financial services employees earned NIS 16,905 ($4,314) on average that month, while workers in the manufacturing industry were paid NIS 12,397 ($3,164). Public employees made NIS 12,804 ($3,267) on average.

 

On the bottom rungs of the pay scale were farming and hospitality workers, who earned NIS 4,259 ($1,087).

 

The number of jobs in the public sector has risen by 1.3% between February and April, in line with the 2.3% growth that registered in the period between November 2011 and January 2012.

 

The number of positions in the hospitality and food services field dropped by 3.5% between February and April, continuing the 3.8% decrease between November 2011 and January 2012.
