Solider dies of rare illness after suffering headaches

Combat Engineering Corps serviceman dies after being diagnosed with rare, fatal disorder; IDF launches inquest

A Combat Engineering Corps soldier died Thursday from what has been described as a rare disease.

 

The soldier, who served in a back-line position with the CEC had been complaining of severe headaches for several days.

According to the IDF, he was given the proper medical treatment by military physicians. His condition took a turn for the worse on Sunday and he collapsed.

 

He was rushed to the Chaim Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, where his condition deteriorated again. Despite their efforts, the doctors were unable to save his life.

 

The IDF has ordered in inquest into the circumstances of the soldier's death.

 

A statement by the military said that "The soldiers had complained of a fairly common ailment prior to his hospitalization and received the proper care.

 

"Once his condition worsened he was referred to the ICU, where he was diagnosed with a rare condition which, unfortunately, has a high mortality rate.

 

"As customary in such cases, the IDF has assigned a senior officer to investigate the case. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit offers its condolences to the family."
