General: Iran to shut Hormuz only if threatened

Iran won't close the Strait of Hormuz, which sees one third of global oil tanker traffic, unless its interests are "seriously threatened," Iran's top general Hassan Firouzabadi said.
"We have plans to close the Strait of Hormuz, because military leaders must be prepared for any situation," said General Firouzabadi Saturday quoted by the ISNA news agency. "But Iran, acting rationally, will not close the corridor … unless its interests are seriously threatened." (AFP)
