Bill seeks to penalize illegal migrants for wiring funds abroad
None
The Justice Ministry has proposed a legislation that would impose harsh penalties on asylum seekers who attempt to send money abroad. If the bill is passed, asylum seekers who enter the country illegally would face a six-month sentence or a fine of NIS 29,200 for an attempt to transfer funds. Anyone who tries to aid the migrant would face a sentenced of up to a year in prison or a similar fine.
According to the ministry, the harsh penalties are meant to deter migrants from infiltrating Israel's borders in order to earn wages and send them back home. (Ynet)
