Obama warns Syria against using chemical weapons
US President Barack Obama has been briefed about the latest developments in Syria and warned its leaders that they will be held responsible if chemical weapons are used. Obama called on President Bashar Assad to step down and hand over power in a swift orderly procedure.
According to US estimates, Syria's chemical stockpile is still under Assad's control. White House spokesman Jay Carney said that as of now the weapons are in safe hands. (Yitzhak Benhorin, Washington)
