Opposition spokesman: Syrian ambassador to Emirates defects

Syria's ambassador to the United Arab Emirates has defected to Qatar, becoming the third senior diplomat to join the opposition to President Bashar al-Assad since the revolt began, a spokesman for the Syrian National Council said on Wednesday.

"The ambassador (Abdelatif al-Dabbagh) is now in Qatar," Mohammad Sarmini told Reuters by telephone. (Reuters)
