Lollapalooza festival heading to Tel Aviv

American music festival conceived by Jane's Addiction lead singer Perry Farrell to arrive in Tel Aviv next summer

The Lollapalooza music festival will take place at Tel Aviv's Hayarkon Park in the summer of 2013, according to the festival's official website.

Lollapalloza was first held in 1991, when Jane's Addiction lead singer Perry Farrell planned a farewell show for his band. The show quickly turned into a large scale event featuring various artists.

The 2013 lineup has yet to be announced.

In previous years the festival featured such renowned musicians as Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Sigur Ros, The Cure, Lady Gaga, and many more.

In recent years, the festival has traveled outside the US, visiting Santiago, Chile in 2011 and Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2012. In 2013, organizers announced the festival will travel to Tel Aviv. "We're creating and gaining an international family," Farell said recently.

"I've been to Tel Aviv a few times," he added, "You got all the hotels right on the beach… and there's no curfew. They love to dance."

Lollapalooza ran from 1991 to 1997, and was relaunched in 2005, introducing multiple stages as well as arts and crafts and food stalls. Visitors to the Israeli festival will not be allowed to sleep on the premises at Hayarkon Park.
