UAE defends crackdown on activists
The United Arab Emirates attorney general says suspects detained in an ongoing crackdown on political dissent have confessed to plans to jeopardize security and to having links to foreign groups.

The UAE has sharply increased pressure on political activists and bloggers since the Arab Spring uprisings last year. As many as 54 people are currently detained, according to the Emirates Centre For Human Rights. (AP)
