Iran state TV says earthquake hits northwest

Iran's state television says a 6.2-magnitude earthquake has hit northwestern Iran but that there have been no reports of possible casualties or damages.  The main news channel says the moderate quake hit the town of Ahar in East Azerbaijan province. It gave no further details.

Iran is located on seismic fault lines and is prone to earthquakes. It experiences at least one earthquake every day on average, although the vast majority are so small they go unnoticed. (AP)
