Thousands in Tahrir Square celebrate Tantawi's ousting

Thousands of Islamist supporters gathered Sunday night in Tahrir Square in Cairo to show their support of Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi's decision to fire Defense Minister Hussein Tantawi.
"The people support the president's decision," chanted the crowd after announcing the retirement of Tantawi, who served as minister of defence for twenty years and was the de facto head of state between the fall of Hosni Mubarak in February 2011 and the election of Morsi last June. (AFP)
