Syria rebels: VP's attempt to flee may have failed

The Free Syrian Army, a rebel group fighting to dislodge Syrian President Bashar Assad, has released a statement suggesting the possibility that Vice President Farouk al-Sharaa's attempt to defect has failed.
In a separate statement, the group said that "This kind of operation, which involves senior officials, involves a series of complex security procedures that require careful information transfers. Therefore, we cannot confirm or deny… Sharaa's defection." (Elior Levy)
