The 41-year-old Australian, who was on Thursday granted asylum by Ecuador, is speaking out for the first time in two months from the balcony of Ecuador's UK embassy. Assange is seeking to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning over sexual misconduct allegations.
Assange on Sunday thanked Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa for the "courage he has shown," in granting him asylum and called on United States to "end its witch hunt" against WikiLeaks organization. Britain cannot detain Assange while he remains inside the embassy, but will not offer him safe passage to Ecuador. (AP)
