Peres to Germany: Circumcision key to Jewish identity

President Shimon Peres sent a letter to his German counterpart Joachim Gauck in which he stressed the importance of preserving the Jewish community's freedom of religion and worship.

In the letter, Peres said circumcision has been a "main principle of the Jewish identity of our people for thousands of years. I am certain Germany will remain committed to protecting the right of its Jewish community to freely observe Jewish tradition. (Attila Somfalvi)
