Immigration Authority: 199 infiltrators crossed into Israel in August

Population and Immigration Authority data shows 199 infiltrators crossed the Egypt-Israel border in August 2012, a sharp decline from the 2,000 infiltrators who skipped the border during August 2011.

The Interior Ministry attributes the drop to the completion of the security fence in the southern border and to stronger enforcement on migrants residing in Israel. Other sources point to the deteriorating security situation in Sinai. (Omri Efraim)
