Erdogan said Friday that Islam as a religion "condemns terror acts that harm the innocent" and exhorted Muslim believers to condemn it.

But Erdogan also criticized a recent film that denigrated Islam and its Prophet Muhammad and sparked protests earlier this week in Egypt, Libya and most recently in Yemen.

Erdogan told participants at an international conference in Ukraine that "insults to Islam's noble values and to the Prophet cannot be assessed within freedom of thought and faith."

The Turkish PM also commented on the situation in Syria and said that Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime has approached its inevitable end.

Erdogan warned of extending the conflict to the entire region. "We must say no to this tragedy and we should not allow the flames to move to the region", he stressed.
