Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called the detention of his top press adviser "regretful".
The official Irna news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying that he would look into the arrest of Ali Akbar Javanfekr. Authorities on Wednesday took Javanfekr into custody to begin serving a six-month sentence for publishing material deemed insulting to the country's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
