Assad: Rejecting Turkish regime, not its people

In the wake of growing tensions between Syria and Turkey, Syrian President Bashar Assad said Thursday that while his country rejects the Turkish government it has nothing against the Turkish people. "Syria has always maintained a friendly attitude towards Turkey, however we do oppose the Turkish regime, due to its problematic behavior around our mutual border," he said in an interview with Turkish media.

The Syrian president also stressed Turkey to combine forces with his country in order to investigate the Syrian mortar attack on Turkey, suggesting rebel forces were behind it. (Elior Levy and Yonatan Gonen)
