Bombs in market, shootings kill 17 in Iraq

None

Back-to-back bomb blasts in a crowded Baghdad market near a revered Shiite shrine and a string of shootings targeting government officials killed at least 17 people Saturday.

The bombings, which happened within about a minute of each other, appeared to be aimed at intimidating Iraq's Shiites, who are a frequent target of Sunni insurgents. Police said at least 11 people were killed and 35 were wounded. (AP)
